About Our Rehab

Who We Are
Grateful Hills is our living, breathing dream, born from a deep love for people and the land.
Our approach is the culmination of decades of shared experience and a desire to use our farm for the benefit of others.
Co-founded and managed alongside strategic partners, Grateful Hills holds thrilling possibilities that our joint efforts are steadily unlocking.
These days, we cannot wait to get up in the morning and relish each beautiful day at Grateful Hills!
We hope that, whoever you are, you’ll find something here that resonates with you, and that you’ll join us, in one way or another, as this story unfolds.

Who We Help
Our mission is to help people grow through a process that leads from freedom from addiction to the freedom to live life with strength and joy.
We believe in taking slow, measured steps, allowing each person to find their own way forward with certainty.
It is our privilege to facilitate this journey for anyone who is serious about putting in the work to heal the soil of their life and cultivate a truly fruitful future.
We offer various stay options, detailed and continually updated on the Services page.
Where We Are
Perched on the side of the Drakensberg Escarpment in Mpumalanga lies our serene home.
As the bat flits, we are about 8 km from the Sudwala Caves, and the surrounding area offers much to explore amid ever-changing scenery.
We farm the steep slopes for timber and food, and the land enjoys an abundance of water from multiple sources.
The difference between the lowest and highest points of the farm (the top of the ridge visible in the photo) is about 550 m, making for a demanding one-day climb for those keen on a challenge!

RENOVATIONS 2026

The Big Change of Plan
2025 presented an unexpected parting of ways with a long-term tenant and subsequent opportunity to establish a therapeutic offering of our own at the same facilities on the farm.
This meant finding ways to realize all we could only ever dream of for this special place. Our vision is big and bold but worth the effort of pursuit as we believe ourselves responsible to steward the land for its purposes.
In the coming years, the full potential of the farm, plantations, orchards, sports & other facilities, community aid projects and private recovery center will be brought to fruition and be beautiful, whole & established,

Sport
On-site & Away
We prize movement and team games.
Sport allows us to connect with people in our community and each other.
Mankele is a well-known camp and sports facility conveniently, just down the road.
We are working to install a combo rugby & soccer field, reinstall the illuminated tennis court and build fair weather volley courts in the coming years.
Grateful Hills is also proudly an emerging Chapter of the Caracals Volleyball Academy.
